25 Days of ADVENTure

This year our family is beginning a new tradition: something I call, "The 25 Days of ADVENTure."  For every December day leading up to Christmas, we will open up an advent calendar door, add the hidden nativity piece to the scene (developing the story of Jesus' birth throughout the month), and then do an activity pertaining to Christmas.  Some will take a lot of effort; some will be necessary lazy days.
Scott and I love the idea of preparing our hearts and focusing our minds on the real reason we celebrate Christmas.  Our hope is that the kids would look back at the month, remembering all the joy and fun, and have a deeper understanding and appreciation for giving, generosity, acts of love and kindness.  After all, this is the time to practice giving; when we celebrate the gift of Jesus to the world!  '
Today we kicked it off by "Surprising a family with a special blessing."

First the kids wanted to draw Grandma Debbi and Bapa Ron (my parents) Christmas and get well cards since Grandma has been feeling under the weather lately.

Surprise to Grandma
and Bapa!

Since Clayton was our destination, we decided to surprise our friends who moved from our neck of the woods to my parents' neck of the woods.  We made gingerbread Rice Krispy squares with maple icing.

 Surprise to N, K, A, C, and D!!

So that was Day One.  We are excited for what
awaits us as we prepare for Jesus' birthday!
